What to do...What to do

With all of you leftovers that is and a fridge full of tupperware. We did pretty good not have too many sides portions left over but turkey no so much. A 12.5 lb turkey for 2 people leaves a LOT of leftovers. Well last night I made a pretty awesome Turkey Pot Pie. It was pretty easy to boot.

Ingredients:
• 1 1/2 cups frozen peas and carrots, thawed under cold water – I hate frozen carrots I used raw and cooked half way
• 5 tablespoons butter
• 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup chopped onion
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper
• 1 3/4 cups turkey or chicken broth
• 2/3 cup milk
• 2 1/2 to 3 cups diced cooked turkey or chicken
• Pastry for 9-inch two crust pie, prepared or purchased

Preparation:
Drain peas and carrots; set aside. Heat butter in 2-quart saucepan over low heat until melted. Stir in flour, onion, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is bubbly; remove from heat then stir in broth and milk. Place back on heat; heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Stir in turkey and vegetables.

Prepare pastry. Roll 2/3 of the pastry into a 13-inch square; ease into ungreased 9-inch square pan. Pour turkey mixture into the pastry-lined pan. Roll remaining pastry into 11-inch square; cut out designs with small cookie cutter. Place square over filling; turn edges under and crimp. Bake in 425° oven until golden brown, about 35 min.
Serves 6.

Some other great options

Personal favorite and the always delicious ham biscuit with the honey baked ham and a little spicy honey mustard you can’t go wrong.

Merry Monday

It's Monday and the Holidays are in full swing.  It's been the perfect Thanksgiving break in our bungalow.  Just the 2 of us...very peaceful and relaxing.  Now it's time to get a few alot done before the Tour but I'm not going to stress out because that doesn't help anything.  I'm pleased to say we have almost all of the Christmas shopping done, wrapped, and the house is almost done.  Just a few dozen more things to check off first.  Ekk.

A few things I am pleased to announce the laundry room is almost done and we are in the process of drying our herbs.  Here's a sneak peek.

Success!

I have successful completed cooking my first every Thanksgiving meal all by myself!  I hate to brag but I did a pretty fantastic job if I do say so myself.  The turkey was very intimidating but I pulled it off.  The Mr. did have to pull the neck out but other than that I did it all....thank you Alton Brown.

Sorry for poor picture quality...camera phone.

Now I'm off to finish up the Christmas shopping!

What we will be eating!

I'm pretty excited about our little Thanksgiving menu that I'm going to attempt to do all by myself...fingers crossed!?!

Baked Brie
Baked Brie…one of my favorites, I will probably finish eating it before I’m done cooking.
Glazed Carrots and Snap Beans....I thought about a casserole but again for 2 people I’m avoid leftovers for weeks.
Stovetop Stuffing…yes the Mr. is a chef but this is his favorite stuffing.

Mashed Potatoes…last year I tried a scalloped potato gratin but nothing really beats good ol’ mashed red potatoes.  Gravy…I’m going to try this from scratch.

My attempt at turkey

And just in case my turkey attempt goes down in flames a Honey Baked Ham

Pumpkin Pie and a Bourbon Pecan Pie …I will be doing mini pies. You really have to have both.

Served with some homemade rolls and my favorite part of the entire meal….drum roll please…wine from our honeymoon in Italy!
It sounds kind of boring but I think it will be delicious and most importantly manageable.

Not Feelin It

Pinned Image

I don’t know what it is but I’m still not quite in the holiday spirit.  I’m half way done with my shopping but still no Christmas spirit.  Hopefully it is just my constant sinus headache or the fall leaves that are still overtaking the yard.  Today I have the Mr. bringing up the decorations so I can gradually get to work this week.  This year my plan is to get the house decorated and then do the tree.  We will be cutting down the tree and bringing him home December 5th.  YAY!!

T-Minus 7 Days

Pinned Image
Holy Smokes….Thanksgiving is only 7 days away….where has the year gone!! I’m very happy to report that I got the majority of my to-do list done last night. And I now feel a little bit more prepared to tackle Holiday Season 2011!

Last night I finally posted a few items on Craigslist, which is a first for me hopefully it goes well. We finally sold one of the Mr.’s old culinary textbooks on Amazon, it’s being shipped today! Woohoo. I’m got my list ready to finish the laundry room this weekend. I think that we have figured out Holiday travel schedule to accomplish visiting all family this season! And I’ve started my list to accomplish Christmas, still need to map out my timeline so I’m done well before the Tour of Homes. Did I mention our little bungalow will be on the tour for my mother’s church Christmas Tour of Homes?!? So excited and little stressed at the same time.

Rainy Wednesday

I’m sorry, I’ve totally dropped the ball on uploading photos lately. Laundry room is still no complete finishing touches will hopefully get done this weekend. And I still haven’t received the pictures from you sister of the weekend. The Mr. will be working this evening so I have quite a to-do list for tonight and will hopefully have something more exciting to share tomorrow.

It’s a rainy midweek down south.

I’m dreaming a cup of tea and a game of chess…yes I know completely random but it’s like the only game where I always beat the Mr.

Tis the Season

Pinned Image

I don’t normally vent via blog, but I’m going to because I think I a lot of young couples deal with this little dilemma. This is the time of year when I sometimes get overwhelmed. I’m bound and determined for this not to happen this year. The Mr. works way too much, I’m busy decorating, shopping, and trying to find a holiday schedule that allows us to see all of the family without sacrificing too many days off work and our sanity.

The Mr. says he hates the holidays because he can’t be in multiple places at once and people just get upset. I truly hate that he feels that way. Unfortunately both of our extended family’s live quite a ways for us and not in major cities. Make flying difficult/expensive and a lot of time spent traveling in the car. This year we are going to enjoy the holidays.

I’ve made the decision that once we have children we will stay at home. Until that time we are going to have to figure something out and everyone is just going to have to deal with it! The holidays can be stressful enough, we don’t need to add unnecessary guilt on top of that.

I don’t know yet how it’s all going to happen, but it will!
So with that being said I am going to look forward to a successful holiday season in our Bungalow!

Monday Spaces

It was a great weekend! It was so much fun showing my Grandaddy around my college town. You will have to wait till tomorrow to see all the pictures.

In the meantime I have a few pretty spaces to share on a gray Monday morning.

Wouldn't it be nice to wake up here...talk about being one with nature.

Looks like a great place to lounge.

Love this ceiling and light fixtures...great combination of styles that works.

It’s finally football weather!  I’m headed down south today with my parent’s and my granddaddy to see our Seminoles play.  My granddaddy is a Hokie and this will be his first game in Tallahassee!  My siblings and I are very excited to share the experience with him.

200th Post + Pink Pins

I have not been a very avid blogger through these 200 posts but it’s not a job. I blog because to keep track of our live. I want to share with our family and friends what’s happening in our little world and the pretty I find pretty in the world. I should probably have something more exciting planned to mark this exciting day…but…I just don’t sorry. I do have some pretty pinks I found on pinterest to share…

Busy Week

It has been a busy busy week and it’s only Wednesday.  We are slowing but surely piecing the laundry room back together….and I love it!  I was unsure of the color choice at first.  Yesterday the Mr. finished the 2nd coat of paint and I’m sure now.  I need a few baskets and to pick out the perfect curtain fabric and we will be complete!  Here’s a little hint on our color selection….

I bet your mind is wondering what we were thinking!?!

Is it really Monday?

Pinned Image

Is it really Monday? It feels like the weekend didn’t even happen. It was a very busy weekend hosting a good friend’s baby shower with 2 other girl friends. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos so I will have to wait till I get those to share. It went really well and we were all very pleased with the outcome! Sunday night I finally got a chance to sit on the couch with the Mr. We sat down and couldn’t move. Really we didn’t move, we order takeout from the couch and rented a movie on demand. ‘Water for Elephants’…loved it! It was over and to our surprise it was only 9pm, but we crawled ourselves into bed anyways. We are a very excited couple….ha.

Happy Monday, hopefully I will get some energy this week because our house is a train wreck like none other…seriously it disgusting. I should have lots to share this week and I’m pretty excited to finish up the Laundry room!

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

It's Hump Day.

I love that I get to spend the evening with my Mr. tonight.

I love love love that we finally have fall weather.

I love the feeling of change. This time of year brings so much change and we are in need of a good change 'I can feel it in the air tonight' :) love that song.

I love that we are almost done with the laundry room...I just have to sway the Mr. to my side of the color fence.

I love JCrew...everything there right now is so pretty. I want it all!

I love Christmas shopping. I'm getting things crossed off the list and I love it. Picking out presents is so fun!!
