Garden & Gun

I’ve added a new magazine to my monthly reading, Garden & Gun, the hot new southern read. It’s all about southern art, food, activities, people and places. My favorites this month…

Nashville painter Emily Leonard’s arboreal zeal

The Memphis Mafia
"represent the best of what this fusion of Italian and Southern produces"

I can’t wait for Round 5 to share some pictures of Mr. Hendrix.

The Pretty Orange

Orange is not my favorite but I'm coming around thanks to a few new found shades of the pretty orange.

Monday Challenge

This week I’m challenging myself to complete my ‘want to do list’. Most weeks I finish my ‘need to do list’ but often don’t get around to accomplishing what I ‘want to do’. This week I’m vowing to do so! 5 days 5 things…surely I can do this…right?!?

- post 5 days and comment on 5 blogs. I love blogging but am not very good at consistently commenting. I have comments and this week I promise to offer them.

- Call an old friend. She probably doesn’t read this little blog but she will know about it this week because I am going to call her and I can wait to catch up!

- Have a long walk with Hendrix every afternoon. This is partly on the ‘need’ list because he is 20 lbs over but we always walk but it’s not always a good long, need a water bottle, kind of walk. I am going wear him out this week!

- Order some prints online. I’ve been wanting to do this for some time…I can’t wait to have some new pics around the house.

- Take my lunch to work everyday this week.  Monday - check!

I always seem to find great gift ideas when I don't need them.  Well I don’t currently need any gifts but this week I’ve found some really great things.

Stick It

It seems that the new food trend is sticks…everything seems to have a stick in it.

Love this concept but I think food on sticks should stick to dessert items.

Summertime

Even though it’s been over 90 degrees the first 16 days of June it is just now “officially” the ‘First Day of Summer’!!!  I love summertime…watermelon, flip flops, bikinis (regardless of whether I look good in them or not), baseball, the beach, sun dresses, salt water, family vacays, 4th of July, fire flies, sunsets, the smell of sunscreen, fireworks, grilling, and I could go on for days.  Other than mosquitoes I can’t think of a single thing I dislike about summer.  This is a very special summer, we have so much planned.  In 12 days my best friend is getting married on the beach.  This is the summer before my little brother goes to college and he’s moving away in August, sad and excited at the same time.  We will be cruising in August with the family.  And lots of nights and weekends spent with friends and family enjoying the summer sun.

Last Chance for Paris

If you dream of Paris, you have to check out Oh Happy Day’s 5 year blogging anniversary give-a-way.  It’s a dream come true.  Find out how to enter...here.

Weekend and Daddy's Day!

I was not looking forward to this Monday. I had such a wonderful, peaceful weekend. I hope this week will bring sunshine and a lot of production as there is a lot to do to finish our June list and prep for my best friends wedding!!

Friday night was the Braves Game with the girls…fun however I think I experienced my first and last trip on Marietta Trolley down to the game. It was nice having a ride but very long travel time waiting on all the trolley riders after the game and a trolley in traffic = not fun. Saturday cleaned my Dad’s office for Daddy’s Day and got a few things done around the house before the Mr. got home at a surprisingly early hour. We made pizza and fell asleep on the couch watching a movie. Sunday I spent a relaxing day with my Daddy!!! I love you and thank you for all you do! I had to share my favorite daddy pics...

Doesn’t that sound like a relaxing weekend and if only I could do that every weekend!

Furry Friends Friday

I had a few great ideas planned but my evenings have been a bit full this week. I have been entertained by these cute friends and wanted to share...

I’m sorry I don’t have all the links but go to Pinterest, all boards, and you are sure to find them.

June Update

So hammock is not quite up yet, materials are now ready. Good news is our June list is coming along. The Mr. has finished filling the bed with soil.
We went shopping for some plants but came away empty handed and overwhelmed after a few hours at Pike Nursery. The tentative plan we are sitting on for a few days…

Tearing out the half dead and bare existing hedges
Whirlwind hostas as a front row

Wavering on the middle section between a dwarf rhododendron and something else...any suggestions
Red Rhododendrons or Acuba in the back
or

(I like the Acuba better but the Rhododendrons will give me pretty flowers to fill our bungalow with the Spring and goes better witht he plants on the other side of the yard.)

To help with our wavering vision and our budget we are going to start with the Rhododendrons and go from there.  Now we just need to plant!

Hanging

Hopefully this evening I will be relaxing in one of these…

{sorry I completely forgot where I got this image}

…on my back porch with a glass of wine.  I received a hammock from my parent’s for my birthday last year and am finally getting around to hanging it.  I can’t wait to enjoy the summer evening air and watch Hendrix chase the lightening bugs.

Obstacle Side Yard

Side yards are very hard to deal with.  Often they don’t get full sun, sometimes used as a pathway and if not what in the world do you do with it?  We are currently dealing with this issue.  Of course this is not at the top of the priority list, but as my often wonders I’ve found a few creative yet beautiful ideas for our little bungalows side yard.
